Raising the Ante

Posted on Friday, May 27th, 2011 in General.

Giving is simple. Bring your own bag and receive a poker chip from your cashier. Deposit that poker chip at the Raising the Ante Donation Counter at the front of our store. It’s worth 5 cents to the non-profit of your choice. The Co-op will tally up the poker chips along with the cash donations and write a check to the featured non-profits each month.

By using a reusable bag – rather than a disposable bag – you are doing your part to reduce pollution and litter.

Since the program began in November 2010, Co-op shoppers have saved over 263,000 bags and donated nearly $16,000 to charities in the Roanoke Valley and Southwest Virginia.

Below is a list of charities and the money we have raised (5 cents per poker chip + monetary donations).
